在母猪饲料中添加麦麸等，可以缓解或解决母猪便秘症状，但麸皮存在着许多安全隐患，据笔者调研的麸皮检测报告统计分析及养猪现场观察评估，当前国内生产实践中，麸皮是严重影响种猪健康的饲料原料。
2015年，国内小麦发生严重的赤霉病，全国的小麦加工副产品麸皮几乎百分百的霉菌毒素超标。
2016年，淮河流域的小麦赤霉病比2015年更严重，加之麦收时节出现连续阴雨天气，小麦质量令人担忧。
麸皮是小麦加工面粉的副产品，现在国内收获及库存的小麦存在严重的质量隐患，并且小麦在加工过程中，为了保证加工质量，要对小麦进行一系列的预处理，其中重要的一项工艺流程就是用着水机对待加工小麦进行着水、润麦，润麦时间通常要24小时，入磨小麦着水份常常调整在16%至17%，所以麸皮在出厂时水份通常大于14%,个别实测出16%，麸皮中的水份大多数超标(行业标准一般为13%)。
存在于麸皮中的水份有游离水与结合水，麸皮中超标水份大多为游离水。微生物生长繁殖能够利用的是游离水。
选择麸皮生产母猪饲料存在很大风险(正规面粉厂出厂的一手新鲜麸皮就存在大隐患，国内的饲料厂大多数很难在麸皮最佳保质时间内釆购到库，加之经销商掺、造假现象严重)。
国内饲料厂家在制造种猪(尤其妊娠母猪)饲料时，麸皮添加量大多在15%至30%之间，理由主要如下：増加全价饲料的体积，让母猪有胞腹感;
再者利用麸皮中的纤维帮助母猪扩充肠胃体积，利用麸皮中的纤维增加有益肠道微生物的扩繁;同时纤维还可让母猪增强消化功能，还有更重要的是利用麸皮中的镁元素减少母猪便秘。
作者在养猪生产实践中发现，尽管理论上麸皮有很多的功能优势，可养猪生产现场证实理论与实践存在巨大差距：大多数使用麸皮(尤其是中小养猪户自配料者)为母猪料喂的猪只，母猪生产成绩的数据统计分析与母猪生产过程中的动物行为表现并非如此。
据作者观察、统计、分析后得出：由于麸皮(当然玉米也存在)大多不新鲜且水份超标，有些还掺杂，加之饲料厂厂房硬件(库房高度、隔热、通风)、软件(管理)很难达到麸皮仓储标准，所以麸皮微生物大多超标导致霉变。
母猪采食后霉菌毒素中毒，具体表现出便秘、泪斑、熊猫眼、眼水肿、皮肤苍白、皮肤溃疡、气血不足、产程过长、仔猪均匀度差、乳房炎、乳腺发育不良、缺奶、发情期延长、流产、假发情、脱肛等一系列表象;
同时还会表现出免疫力下降后对猪瘟、口蹄疫、伪狂犬、蓝耳病、圆环病毒、链球菌、霉形体等病毒与细菌异常敏感。
在养猪生产实践中作者还发现，在一些少用或不用麸皮的饲料喂养的母猪，很少出现上述现象，且生产稳定，母猪繁殖性能上乘，仔猪生长发育良好，非常好养。
哺乳动物自愈能力非常强大，德国国家科研机构在2001年的一份研究报告中称：“如果能治疗疾病的物质都称作药的话，动物体自身是可以产生一万多种药的!而这一万多种药有百分之七十产生于动物肠道中。一般的疫病靠这些药完全就可以治愈。
饲用纤维可高效促进猪肠道蠕动、吸附毒素、稀释肠道内各类毒素与病源体的浓度，缩短这些物质在肠道中的滞留时间，从而减少毒素和病源体与肠道的接触机会，使肠道中的粪便变软并扩大粪便体积，降低结肠压力，并且使这些有毒有害物质迅速排泻出体外。
饲纤维可有效降低饲料中霉菌毒素与便秘对母猪的系列危害，并且可能是成本最低、时效最短、效果最好、副作用最少的功能性产品。
霉菌毒素与便秘的和谐解决之道
在选择品质好的饲料原料的同时，用物理方法对饲料原料预处理(过风、过筛、除杂、水洗、微波)等。
